Day 1: 22 Nmiles, Monday, Sailing from Lixouri, Kefalonia to Aghios Nikolaos, Zante
Destination Lixouri, Kefalonia.
About Lixouri
Lixouri The second-largest town on the stunningly beautiful island of Kefalonia in the Greek Islands. Lixouri is a very Greek town which has not been spoilt by tourism. Traditionally, Lixouri’s visitors are people who have discovered its charm and who return year after year.

Perfectly located, we have a permanent yacht berth here and are just 5 minutes walk from the centre of this lively town. Make your way into the square for an early evening drink from the many bars and coffee shops – very popular with local Greek people who live and work in Lixouri. Watch the ferries as they make their regular journeys from Lixouri to Argostoli, the capital of Kefalonia. Only half an hour away, Argostoli is worth a visit with its modern shops and many restaurants.

Pilotage
Your Heikell pilot book will tell you to moor up in the main harbour. However, there is now a new marina a couple of hundred metres further north with a channel marked out. If you can’t get into the marina, then the west quay in the main harbour is a good alternative.

Yacht Facilities and Provisions
Fuel, water and electricity are available here, both from the marina and the main harbour. Re-stock from any of the many supermarkets and fresh fruit and vegetable market traders.

Yacht Sailing Conditions
The wind in this area is superb for yacht sailing. Very often, when the wind is 5 to 10 knots in the north of Kefalonia, there will be 20 knots in the bay just off Lixouri producing excellent sailing conditions. Take advantage of this spacious sailing environment to build confidence in a unique area rarely found by other sailing yachts and water users sailing around the Greek islands.

Eating Out
Many excellent restaurants and tavernas lie along the sea-front of the main harbour with menus to suit all tastes. Children are especially welcome in all Greek restaurants. Ostria is a favourite with the Lixouri locals looking for a finer dining experience. Akrogiali is popular for those looking for a more Greek style cuisine.
If you’ve been sailing hard that day and you need a faster food fix, then any of the town’s many Greek souvlaki restaurants will do the trick. Most Greeks have dinner around 9pm so if it’s a bit of atmosphere you are looking for, join in and eat Greek style.
