Probably the most popular spot on Ithaca, Kioni is a picturesque village very popular with anyone sailing in the Ionian. Clean, attractive with typically Greek houses this colourful village is certainly worth a visit. Good restaurants, friendly people and possibly more cats here than in the rest of Greece.more photos |

| Pilotage The three windmill towers to the southern entrance of Kioni will confirm you have sailed to the right place. You can berth bow or stern-to the quay. If you have to anchor off the wall in Kioni, the depth increases to 10 metres and more, particularly as you move towards and out of the entrance, so you’ll need to let out plenty of chain/warp. Yacht Facilities and Provisions Many of the visitors to this small harbour are on their sailing holiday so most provisions can be found for the day’s sail. Yacht Sailing Conditions The east side of Ithaca offers some fabulous sailing, with several options for anchoring and overnight stays. In the summer, the west wind prevails mostly during the afternoon hours, blowing quite strong during June and July and dying down after around 8pm. If you sail east, away from the mountains of Ithaca, the wind becomes more consistent and less gusty. Eating Out Fresh fish is the speciality here and can be found in any of the waterfront tavernas. Kioni survived total destruction from the 1953 earthquake. Its beauty and stunning surroundings is the perfect spot for a memorable and truly romantic evening. |
